A low-carb diet is a healthy eating plan that consists of no more than 10% of calories from carbohydrates. These diets may also be called "ketogenic," "low carb," "low-carb" or "low-carbohydrate," but they are all short for low-carbohydrate diet. In fact, a low-carbohydrate diet can be considered as a whole diet. The term ketogenic means low in glucose, which is the normal blood glucose level for most people. In this diet, all of the carbohydrates are in the form of glucose, and the body breaks them down for energy. It is not necessary to have a high-carbohydrate diet to follow it. A low-carbohydrate diet works best if you have no history of diabetes, type-2 diabetes or obesity, and you don't consume a lot of sugar. A low-carbohydrate diet does not have to be strict; the only rule is to follow the guidelines for a good low-carbohydrate diet, which include taking in fewer carbs than you should, not eating too many carbs, and avoiding excess fat and sugars.
